Note: Deadlines cannot be extended. Incomplete or late applications are rejected. There is no conditional or provisional admission at TU Berlin; you are only admitted if your application is complete, submitted on time, and all requirements are met.

How to Apply

1. Get your VPD from uni-assist: Apply for Preliminary Review Documentation (VPD) via uni-assist. Without a VPD issued for TU Berlin, it is not possible to apply. Processing takes 4–6 weeks.
   
2. Apply via TU Berlin’s application portal: Once your VPD is ready, submit your application before the deadline.
3. Upload required documents: Academic transcripts, proof of language proficiency, and any program-specific certificates, all as PDF files
4. Receive your decision:
   You will find your admission or rejection letter in the TU portal (tuPORT) once the decision has been made.

Eligibility Requirements

Bachelor’s Programs

• University entrance qualification (HZB) equivalent to the German Abitur, verified by VPD from uni-assist
• Proof of German language proficiency at the required level

Master’s Programs

• Relevant Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university
• Proof of language proficiency in German for German-taught programs, English for English-taught programs
• Program-specific documents as required by the faculty

Note: TestAS and IELTS are NOT mandatory for Bachelor’s applications at TU Berlin. You are also not required to submit proof of an internship to apply.

For Indian Students

• Students whose qualifications are not equivalent to the German Abitur must take an assessment test at TU Berlin’s Preparatory School before beginning their degree program.
• Indian students must obtain an APS Certificate before applying. This is a mandatory document verification requirement by German authorities for Indian applicants.
• Apply for your APS Certificate at least 2–3 months before your application deadline.

Student Visa

• A German student visa is required before arriving in Germany
• Proof of financial resources of €11,904 per year (approx. ₹10.78 Lakhs) is required, typically via a blocked account
• Visa fee: €75 (approx. ₹6,800)

NOTE: Apply for your visa as soon as you receive your admission letter. German embassy appointments in India book up quickly, especially between June and September.

The University of Technology, Berlin, is located in the heart of Berlin. It has 34,000 students and 7,000 staff members. Apart from studies, it offers a lot of options for sports, cultural activities, and additional training.

As far as basic needs go, there is a dining hall at Hardenbergstraße and other dining halls and restaurants for students who want hot meals and beverages like coffee. Also, sports, language courses, musical instruction, movie watching, and seminars to assist students in making connections among themselves and developing their interests are all offered.

At TU Berlin, some initiatives aid students in scheduling timetables, preparing for exams, choosing specialisations, organising different events like gaming nights, parties, and outings, among others, and coaching freshmen or international students joining the university for the first time.

Students’ activities support students with timetabling, studying for exams, and selecting specialisations, among other tasks. It is possible for the students to be mentors to those in their first semester or buddies to foreign students joining them at the university.

In terms of research activities, TU Berlin is among the universities making up the Berlin University Alliance, which is Germany’s only and first University Consortium of Excellence, with other universities such as Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and Charité. In March 2026, the University was awarded funding for a further six years from 2027 to 2033 by the Alliance. At TU Berlin, there were three clusters of excellence, such as MATH+, Science of Intelligence (SCIoI), and Unifying Systems in Catalysis (UniSysCat), all receiving funding up to €10 million yearly.

In terms of the international community, there are more than 150 cooperation agreements and more than 500 exchange programs at TU Berlin, where more than 30 per cent of all students are foreigners from more than 150 countries. At TU Berlin, there is a special counselling service for international students who need information about visas, residence permits, work permits, and the integration into German culture through orientation programs held at the beginning of each semester. Additionally, foreign exchange students can participate in the Buddy Program that introduces them to the host country’s culture and university through a partner program.

NOTE: At TU Berlin, there are cultural clubs representing different parts of the world. Joining an initiative, participating in the buddy program, or entering a student club will make the adjustment process much easier.

• Need a fully English-taught Bachelor’s program

TU Berlin Scholarships:

Deutschlandstipendium:

• Merit-based Scholarship funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
• Available to students from any nationality.
• Academic achievements and personal situation are evaluated for awarding scholarships.

STIBET I (DAAD):

• Awarded to international students who need financial assistance.
• Pays €450/month for 6 months (€2,700 total).

PROMOS (DAAD):

• A maximum of €550/month for 6 months for a research/thesis trip abroad.
• Given once per academic program only.

Erasmus+:

• A monthly grant is awarded to students going on an exchange program.
• €600/month for students visiting EU countries belonging to Group 1.

Heinrich Böll Stiftung:

• Awards grants to academically sound students working towards sustainable development and human rights.

Friedrich Ebert Stiftung:

• For international students displaying exceptional merit and social commitment.
• Renewable each year.

Konrad Adenauer Stiftung:

• Primarily awarded to international students studying a doctoral program in Germany

NOTE: The majority of these scholarships have strict deadlines each year. Indian & International students can apply for most of these scholarships.

Tuition Fees:

TU Berlin charges no tuition fees for most Bachelor’s and Master’s programs. The only exceptions are continuing education Master’s programs. Every student pays a semester fee of €360.49 (approx. ₹32,000) per semester, which includes a public transport ticket for all of Berlin.

Note: Some specialised and MBA programs have program-specific fees. Always verify on the TU Berlin official website before applying.

Living Expenses:

TU Berlin officially recommends students have at least €1,200 per month to cover room and board, health insurance, books, and supplies.

Once you have graduated from TU Berlin, you can obtain an 18-month Job Seeker Visa that allows you to remain in Germany to search for employment in your speciality area. During the time you stay in Germany with such a visa, you can engage in any type of employment that helps you earn money. Having secured employment, you are then able to apply for the EU Blue Card. According to current legislation as of 2026, you are supposed to earn a minimum amount of €50,700 gross per year, or €45,934 gross per year for shortage occupations,  including STEM, IT and engineering fields. Having stayed in Germany with the help of the EU Blue Card for 27 months, you can apply for the permanent residence permit in the country.

Applying to study in Germany at TU Berlin involves multiple steps: program selection, documentation, APS certification, uni-assist, and a visa. It can get overwhelming fast.
