Founded in 1878 as the School of Agriculture of Canterbury University College, Lincoln is the oldest agricultural teaching institution in the Southern Hemisphere and New Zealand’s third-oldest university. It became an independent university in 1990 and has since built a global reputation focused on one thing: land, food, environment, and the industries that depend on them.

With around 3,000 students from over 80 countries, Lincoln is one of New Zealand’s most internationally diverse universities relative to its size, ranking 53rd globally for International Students in the QS 2026 Rankings. Lincoln is intentionally small.
