Academic Requirements

Undergraduate:

A-levels from the UK. In the case of Indian students: 75–85% marks in Class XII (CBSE/ISC), depending on the course. Medicine courses and extremely competitive courses need 90%+. The 4-year degree structure at Edinburgh is flexible and excellent for overseas students.

Postgraduate:

A relevant bachelor’s degree with a minimum 60% overall for most programmes (equivalent to a UK 2:1 or above). Competitive programmes like MSc AI and MSc Data Science typically expect 65–70%+ or a CGPA of 7.5/10.

PhD / Research:

Strong master’s degree or honours bachelor’s; confirmed supervisor; research proposal.

What Are the Living Costs in Edinburgh?

Edinburgh has a higher cost of living compared to other cities in Scotland; nevertheless, it is significantly lower compared to London. Monthly expenses are approximately £850-£1300 (£1,39,100).

As per UK government guidelines, the minimum amount of funds in the applicant’s bank account in order to apply for a student visa is £1,334 per month for nine months (£12,006). Another unique feature of Edinburgh is that it provides university accommodation to all incoming international students on a guaranteed basis.

NOTE: The most valuable scholarship available to Indian students at Edinburgh University is THE GREAT Scholarship worth £10,000. It is awarded only to those with a first-class undergraduate degree and must be applied for separately from MyEd. Not all master’s programs are eligible.
