Tuition fees
Like most public universities in Germany, Heidelberg charges no tuition fees for standard bachelor’s and consecutive master’s programmes for EU and non-EU students alike. However, since 2017, non-EU international students in Baden-Württemberg (where Heidelberg is located) have been subject to an additional tuition fee of around €1,500 per semester.
NOTE: Some special and continuing education master’s programmes charge separate, higher tuition fees. These are explicitly listed on their individual programme pages. Always check before applying.
Living Costs in Heidelberg
Heidelberg University officially estimates a minimum of €992 per month for living and study costs combined. Total Annual Estimate is approximately €10,800 – €15,600 (₹9.7L – ₹14L).
Heidelberg is a small city and significantly more affordable than Munich or Frankfurt. Student dormitory places are limited and in high demand. Apply for accommodation through the Studierendenwerk Heidelberg as soon as you receive your admission letter.
NOTE: The German Government requires international students to show a blocked account (Sperrkonto) of €11,904 per year (€992/month) when applying for a German Student Visa. This is the official 2025 requirement.
