Australia has seen the most dramatic increase in study costs among all major destinations – and the increases have come in waves.<\/p>\n
Student visa fees: <\/strong>Comparing 2022 and 2026, the student visa application fee has risen by 285% and the Temporary Graduate visa application fee has risen by 148%.<\/p>\n The most recent increase came on July 1, 2026 – with no prior warning or industry consultation:<\/p>\n Tuition fees: <\/strong>Many Australian universities raised their tuition fees as the cost of international student recruitment rose. The average year-over-year increase was more than 6% in 2025.<\/p>\n Health insurance: <\/strong>The private health insurance premium – which almost all international students need for a visa – is set to rise by 4.4% in April 2026.<\/p>\n The cumulative impact: <\/strong>Across three increases spanning 2024, 2025, and now 2026, the Temporary Graduate Visa application fee has more than doubled. Even before the latest increase, the Temporary Graduate Visa was the most expensive post-study work visa in the world.<\/p>\n Australia’s government has justified the increases as a measure to ensure student visa integrity – but the industry reaction has been strongly negative, with concerns about long-term competitiveness.<\/p>\n","image":false},{"heading":"France - The Most Dramatic Policy Change","content":" France’s fee change is arguably the most significant structural shift in international education costs anywhere in the world in recent years.<\/p>\n What changed: <\/strong>Starting in September 2026, French universities are required to charge non-EU students \u20ac2,895 per year for undergraduate programmes and \u20ac3,941 for graduate programmes.
